Third Trimester

Week 38: Your Baby Weighs About 3kg

You are very likely feeling ready for this pregnancy to be over. Everything feels heavy and moving around is a challenge. Your cervix may be dilating and effacing in preparation for labour, even if you don't feel it. Emotional readiness for birth fluctuates between excitement and nervousness.

Baby Development

The baby's organ systems are all functioning. The brain and nervous system are fine-tuning their control over body functions. The baby's grasp is firm, and they are ready to grip. The tear ducts are developed but won't produce tears for a few weeks after birth. The baby continues to add fat, and the skin has a healthy pink tone regardless of eventual skin colour.
