Week 21: Your Baby is the Size of a Carrot

Your belly is growing steadily and your appetite may have increased. Varicose veins may appear on your legs due to increased blood volume and pressure from the uterus. You might notice spider veins on your face, neck, or arms.

Baby Development

The baby's movements are becoming more coordinated. Eyebrows and eyelids are fully formed. The baby is swallowing amniotic fluid and absorbing small amounts of sugar, helping the digestive system develop. If your baby is a girl, the vagina has begun to form. The baby's taste buds are working, and they can taste what you eat through the amniotic fluid.

Week 21 Highlight: Your baby can now taste flavours through the amniotic fluid - spicy, sweet, or bitter - whatever you eat!
